| Attractive to Wildlife As a registered backyard habitat with the Wildlife Federation, we provide food, shelter, and water for our wild friends... the feathered and furry ones... the other wild ones are on their own. Here next to the Russian Sage (blue flowers) and under the Dogwood that one of the feathered friends planted for us we have a small hummingbird feeder. The stone paths are lined with limestone rocks that Randy hauled home a few at a time from work at Rohrer's Quarry southwest of Lititz. photo copyright 2000 Randy E. Newcomer |

Edelweis One of the favorite flowers we have, the black pansies also make a great syrup for enjoying on ice cream. Their unusual color, or lack thereof, provides an interesting addition to the garden. An annual, they have successfully re-seeded themselves from time to time. These, at the patio entrance off the driveway frame the greeting "As a Garden Grows, So Grows the Gardener." photo copyright 2000 Randy E. Newcomer |
| Valerian Valariana I'm still checking some information out on this and can't decide exactly which variety we have. It may either be the Garden (officinalis) or Swamp (uliginosa). The leaves and color fit the Swamp, but the size was more like the Garden variety... although it may have grown that large under our loving care. It was gotten from a friend in New England where the Swamp variety is found. Either way, it's a large, dramatic plant. photo copyright 2000 Randy E. Newcomer |
